A big thank you to our practicum student!

Updated: Mar 30

Over the past few months, Literacy Outreach Coordinator Kelly Anderson has had the help of a new practicum student. Sam Sorrell, an Education Assistant Student at North Island College, has been busy learning the ins and outs of outreach work and being a literacy support to elementary school students.

“I’ve learned about the many programs the literacy society funds and offers,” said Sam. “I enjoyed the hand-on opportunities to work with kids and getting out more into the community for the outreach parts.”

“Sam has helped with many projects during her time with us,” said Kelly. “She helped to organize and run the literacy fair and a pizza making class over spring break; she helped to create a form that the Literacy Society will use to record meeting places; she was a one-to-one reading tutor with students at Fort Rupert Elementary School – and so much more!”

As Sam’s practicum comes to an end in April, we want to express our heartfelt thanks for all her hard work during her time with us. We wish her all the best with the remainder of her schooling and her next practicum!
