September is Literacy Month in British Columbia!
Each September, Decoda Literacy Solutions leads a province-wide awareness and fundraising campaign to celebrate Literacy Month. The campaign highlights the importance of literacy and raises funds to support community-based literacy programs and initiatives across BC.
This year’s theme is “Literacy: The Ripple Effect”
Improved literacy skills have a ripple effect, helping to improve quality of life at home, at work and in the community.

Free Book for Children at the Fall Fair!
We’ll be at the Mount Waddington Regional Fall Fair on September 6 & 7, 2025 at Chilton Arena in Port McNeill!

Throughout the month of September, people across B.C. are encouraged to donate books to literacy organizations, literacy-adjacent programs, and other nonprofits in their communities.
Mount Waddington Family Literacy Society is participating in the Give a Book campaign. Books will be given to children and youth at our events and in programs.
Date and location to be announced soon!
We are requesting:
• New books only
• Board books, children's books, teen books
• No YA/Adult books, encyclopedias, dictionaries
• No used books, please!

Enter the Literacy Month Contest!
When you give a book, you can enter Decoda Literacy's contest by emailing a photo and the name of the group that you gave a book.
