About 30 people attended a literacy themed Escape Room and Community Forum in Port Hardy May 27 and Port McNeill May 29.
Family groups solved puzzles together and learned about the importance of literacy, and in Port Hardy, heard special guest, author and poet Lucy Hemphill read from her poetry book called "Trees".
"I got wonderful feedback; the resounding answer from everyone was to do this again and have more puzzles and make some of them hard!" says Literacy Outreach Coordinator Kelly Anderson. "The reflective piece at the end of each events lead to some thoughtful remarks, including learning more about the literacy society and theorizing ways they'd like to see literacy supports in their area. This is especially helpful as we plan for the coming year. Thank you!"
These groups had the first opportunity to complete our new community learning survey and enter a draw for grocery gift cards, donated by BOS Marine. BOS Marine also contributed to other areas of the events and we are so grateful for their support.
Winners of the draws were: Caterina de Toro and Helena Dore
